Overall Record Last Year: 20-10

Conference Record Last Year: 12-6

Season Outlook:

The 2010 Noblesville Millers will look to for its 4th straight 20+ win season and its 2nd Hoosier Crossroads Conference title in 3 years. The Millers, led by Head Coach Justin Keever (97-55 in 6th year), will attempt to do this without key graduation losses and arguably the toughest schedule in the Midwest which includes trips to Cincinnati, Kentucky, and Tennessee during spring break. There, they will take on two 2009 State Champions (Moeller (OH) & Farragut (TN)), a state finalists (Bearden (TN)), and perennial powers St. Xavier (KY), Strongsville (OH), Karns (TN), and DeSales (KY). The schedule also includes arch rival Carmel, an opening day game versus 3A power Crawfordsville, county rival Hamilton Heights and 18 games in the strongest baseball conference in Indiana, the Hoosier Crossroads Conference. This gauntlet of a schedule seeks to prepare the Millers for conference play and arguably the toughest Sectional in Indiana…Sectional 9 (Carmel, Zionsville, Southeastern, Westfield, Fishers, and Noblesville), which saw four of the six teams win 20 games and yield a state runner-up in 2009. The Millers, however, will not be taking a knife to a gun fight, as they return their entire 3-man starting rotation that combined 3.13 ERA in 2009. Two time All-HCC and 2009 honorable mention all-state, Ryan Byrne (7-3; 2.37 ERA), returns to lead the staff. The junior comes into the 2010 season with a career 14-4 record. Junior Derek Asuras (4-4; 3.85 ERA) begins his 3rd year as a starter coming in with a career record of 8-6, while senior Kyle Guarriello (4-2; 3.78 ERA) becomes a 2 year starter on the bump for the Millers. The Millers also return 5 starters from there every day line-up, led by seniors: Jake Yeary (OF - .385 avg. & 14 RBI) and Kyle Guarriello (OF - .288 & 12 RBI); juniors: Derek Asuras (OF - .337 & 20 RBI); Tanner Watson (2B - .350); and Caleb Shore (2B and will move to SS). On defense the Millers will look to improve on their .950 team fielding percentage with a new left side of the infield, catcher & first basemen. Talented sophomore, Sam Wides, will be called upon to man an experienced pitching staff from behind the plate, with Sophomore Seth Rayle providing depth. Rayle, Andrew Rodgers (Jr), Patrick Rader (So.), and Austin Ramey (So.) will all compete for the 3rd base job. Junior, Caleb Shore will look to slide over to SS after spending most of the 2009 campaign at 2B. Completing the double play combination at 2B will be junior Tanner Watson, who ended the 2009 season as the starting 2B, may also make the move to SS. At first base, fast improving juniors, Jameson Brock and Ryan Byrne will both see time. Look for the athletically versatile Brock to move to the OF with either Guarriello or Asuras on the mound. The Miller outfield provides the most experience with Senior Jake Yeary (LF), Junior Derek Asuras (CF), and Senior-Kyle Guarriello (RF), with all three starting last season, with Guarriello and Asuras starting the past two seasons. Sophomores Tyler Mitchener and Mike Nichols will battle to provide depth in the outfield. The pitching staff, perhaps, has the most depth of any position on the 2010 club. With Byrne main stays in the Miller starting rotation, Kyle Guarriello (Sr.), Max Breier (Jr.) and Tyler Beaver (Jr.) will all battle to complete the 3 man rotation. Zach Ballenger (Sr.), Matt Cooley (Sr.), Alex Oyler (Sr.), Austin Haselhorst (Sr.), Jake Yeary (Sr.), Andrew Rodgers (Jr.), and Seth Rayle (So.) will bolster a 2010 bullpen with a lot of depth and diversity. The 28 game regular season will get underway March 30th at 6:00 pm vs. Crawfordsville at Dunker Field.
